Bosnia's capital city, Sarajevo, was surrounded with the help of Serbian men and Bosnian/Serbs who attempted to "ethnically cleanse" the area of not only Muslims, but women, the ill, and anyone that wasn't favorited by the Serbians. The “siege of Sarajevo” is considered to be one of the most dramatic and representative parts Yugoslavia’s split, with thousands of innocent civilians were put on record for being killed over the course of nearly four years.
Over 8,000 men, women, and children were murdered during this genocide. The Serbian forces dug up the original graves of many victims and moved them across a large piece of territory in order to fill the voids with the dead innocent citizens that filled the streets.
Aftermath
In November 1995, the Dayton Accords were signed by Bill Clinton in Dayton, Ohio, officially ending the war in Bosnia. This peace agreement established two semi-autonomous entities within Bosnia-Herzegovina: the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which was dominated by Bosnians and Croatians, and the Republika Srpska (which includes Srebrenica), which was dominated by the Serbians.
These both included their own political structures, economies, and educational systems, though connected through a central government.
